How it all started...
In 1887, at the Whitakers Grove community, Mr. Joe Whitaker bought lumber and made seats under a shade tree for a Sunday School Class. By fall, the community fixed a cabin where the first sermon was ever preached there.
In 1894, the community built a larger building that became known as "Whitakers Grove." That building served the community until 1953. By God's grace, the church continued to grow. The church decided to change locations in 1964 and built "Southern Heights Baptist Church."

Expanding the vision...
God continued to grow Southern Heights over the years and in 1994 the congregation dedicated a new sanctuary. Furthermore, the church continued reaching the community and the world with the gospel of Jesus.
Where we are headed...
In 2021, the heart of the church is much the same. We want to know Jesus and make Him known. By God's grace, we are a Word-centered, Christ-exalting, gospel-saturated, missional living faith-family. We want to live for what matters most 100 years from now. Namely, we want to live for Christ's glory and obey Him no matter the cost.
